About us

Budget first, car second

See my options →See your options before you commit

Personal Car Loans exists for one simple reason: most people shopping for a car are asked about the weekly repayment long before anyone asks what they can comfortably afford. We think that order is back to front.

So this site starts with your numbers. The car budget planner works from your take-home pay and regular bills to a repayment budget you'd be comfortable with, then lists the running costs that arrive after you drive away: registration, compulsory third party insurance, comprehensive cover, servicing, tyres and fuel or charging.

Who we help

Everyday Australians buying a new or used car, a ute or 4WD, an electric vehicle, or needing a personal loan for debt consolidation, an emergency or a home project. That includes people with a few marks on their credit history who want a straight answer about what's realistic.

What we promise

See your options first

You can look at what's on offer before you commit to anything. Nothing is signed until you're comfortable with the numbers.

A real person can help

Questions about a quote, a document or your budget? A real person can walk you through it.

Honest answers, better matches

Answer the application questions accurately. Correct income and expense figures lead to options you can actually live with.

How we work

Our guides explain how car loans and personal loans work, what lenders look at and what to check before signing. When you're ready, you start an application through our secure application partner and can see your options before you commit. A real person can help with questions along the way.

We don't publish interest rates. Every loan is priced on the applicant's circumstances and the lender's assessment, so a rate on a website rarely matches the one you'd be offered. What we can do is help you know your comfortable repayment before you see any quote, so you can judge it properly.

Responsible borrowing

Borrow only what you can repay without strain. Lenders are required to look at your income and expenses before approving credit, and if a loan would leave you struggling, it isn't the right loan. If you're already finding repayments hard, the free National Debt Helpline (1800 007 007) is a good first call.
